Web accessibility is becoming increasingly important for legal reasons, the ratification of the Disability Discrimination Act in October, and for users of new tools such as handheld computers, iPAQs and Blackberrys.
The guidelines focus on writing web pages that can be read by Braille readers, screen readers and other devices for the disabled. A corollary of this is that emerging technologies such as handheld computers also find it easier to display the site. Improving the site for the disabled actually improves it's usability for everyone.
DP Consulting's website, www.dpconsulting.org.uk, now has shortcut keys for fast access to pages, a text only version of every page and instructions on getting the most out of the web accessible features.
The site already conformed with both the World Wide Web Consortium and Bobby guidelines to AAA standard. These changes re-inforced Go2ten's commitment to accessible development and were provided free of charge as part of their charity support programme.
